Instructions to the Authors

1. Contents: The "Mitteilungen des I.E.V". publish original contributions on the whole field of entomology. Priority is given to faunistic, biological, ecological, taxonomic and applied studies. No restriction to biogeographical areas exist. Arachnological contributions are welcome. Only manuscripts are acceptable which are in accordance with the international rules of nomenclature (ICZN). Holotypes of species new to science should be deposited in public collections. Authors are responsible for the content of their contributions. The editors may conduct stilistic and formal changes as well as the final layout of accepted contributions. Manuscripts which do not fit to the instructions may be rejected or send back for corrections by the editors. Manuscripts, which exceed 30 printed pages including figures, tables etc., are only accepted after previous communication with the editors. - Large manuscripts may be published as a monographie (supplement). Printing of supplements has to prepared several month in advance.

2. Formal aspects of the manuskript: Type-written contributions are only accepted after previous consultation; authors may be charged for fees resulting from re-typing the text. Manuscripts have to be submitted in MS-Word, a MS-Word-compatible program or ASCII-formatted on floppy-disk (3,5") together with two printed versions. The autors are urgently requested to not insert text marks without previous consultation of the editor. Genus-group names have to be given in full, abbreviations are only acceptable if the genus is used several times in the text. Longer contributions have to include an english abstract, preferably as well as a german and/or french abstract. Generally the language of publication is German, English or French manuskripts are accepted. In cases of doubts concerning the form, the latest issues of the Mitteilungen have to be consulted. Kapital letters for author names do not have to be used. Names of authors in the reference list have to be given in Kapitälchen; Authors of genera-group or species-group names have to be given in standard format.

3. References: Following the subtitel »References« at the end of the manuscript the references are given. All references have to be cited in the text. References have to be given as exemplified in the following:

  • Döberl, M. (2000): Beitrag zur Kenntnis der Gattung Epitrix Foudras, 1860 in der Paläarktis (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae: Alticinae). - Mitt. internat. entomol. Ver. 25(1/2):1-23.
  • Spuler, A. (1908): Die Schmetterlinge Europas I, 385 S., 113 Abb.; Stuttgart (Schweizerbart).

    Names of journals should only be abbreviated if the abbreviations are unambigous.

4. Figures: Original figures have to be submitted seperately and have to be numbered according to the figures'numbers in the manuscript. Line drawings have to be carried out using ink on white cardboard or transparent paper (min. 120g/qm). Scanned figures have to be submitted additionally on floppy disk. Coloured figures can be printed, but authors are charged for additional cost. To reduce cost, manuscripts including coloured figures are preferably compiled in one volume and printing may therefore last longer.

5. Proofs: Proofs have to be corrected fast and inmediately after receipt. Only minor corrections of the proofs by the authors can be accepted, this is free of charges, if the page layout has not to be changed. Additional cost resulting from major changes of the proof by the author have to be payed by the author. Information about cost is provided by the editor.

   

6. Reprints: Authors receive 30 reprints, or 3 volumes in the case of small contributions. Additional volumes or reprints may be ordered, and authors are charged a special price. The number of additional reprints has to be ordered together with the proofs at latest. Later orders are charged with the regular price for the volumes.
